Boat safety

All of our boats are subject to a number of inspections to ensure that they are, and that they remain, seaworthy and in good presentable and usable condition.

As UK registered vessels, operating in Spain under the auspices of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) they are subjected to a British surveyors examination to ensure that they meet with the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) Code of Compliance. This is a comprehensive examination which confirms all aspects of the vessels condition, equipment and safety gear.

They are also subjected to a similar examination by a Spanish surveyor to ensure compliance with Spanish maritime standards. The two countries standards and requirements are high but not identical. We have to comply with both.

In addition to these examinations they have annual inspections by examiners from the RYA to ensure that these above requirements are being met and also that the extra equipment required by the RYA is in place.

The RYA Instructor who'll be running your course is also subjected to rigorous inspections. To gain the qualification in the first place he or she had to be the holder of the world renowned RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate. With that and after many extra thousands of yachting miles they were put through an exhaustive training and examination period before being confirmed as RYA instructors. To maintain this qualification they have to be re-inspected on a regular basis to ensure that their skills are current.

As commercial users of their qualifications our instructors have to pass a two yearly medical examination specifically aimed at mariners.
